The third Admiral Hipper-class heavy cruiser, Prinz Eugen, was commissioned in August 1940 as an enlarged and improved version of the first and second Hipper-class ships.
It was a fortunate ship that survived numerous naval battles, including Operation Rheinübung in 1941 and Operation Cerberus in 1942, and was seen at the end of the war.
