In honor of the zodiac sign of 2024, the Dragon, the Year of the Dragon collection is a reprint of dragon embroidery selected from a large number of vintage sukajans.
The surface is a pattern commonly known as a ``dragon head,'' which depicts only the head of a dragon in great detail.
It is based on a recently discovered work from the early 1950s, and this is the first time Taylor Toyo has reproduced it.
The pale green dragon face and vermilion-tinged flames are the colors of the embroidery threads unique to Japan at the time.
Vintage details have been reproduced, such as a solid navy body with navy blue on both the body and the bottom of the sleeves, and white rope piping (usually twisted in two colors).
The reversible side features a tiger roaring fiercely in a bamboo forest.
``Bamboo and tiger'' have been considered a good combination since ancient times and have often been depicted as a motif for skajan jackets, but the composition of crossed bamboos like this one is unique.
The red bamboo leaves that stand out against the black body are impressive, but if you look closely at the tiger's embroidery, you can see that red thread is used in parts of the outline of the paws and the black stripes to emphasize its power.
