This is a plastic model of the Fine Molds "1/48 Aircraft Series Imperial Navy Type 98 Land-Based Reconnaissance Aircraft Model 12."
The Navy, taking notice of the Army's Type 97 Headquarters Reconnaissance Aircraft, which was acclaimed for its high performance, modified the aircraft's specifications to suit its specifications and officially adopted the Type 98 Land-Based Reconnaissance Aircraft.
The Type 12 was engaged in a variety of reconnaissance missions (bomber guidance, advance reconnaissance, and weather reconnaissance), which were just as important as combat.
The Model 12 was equipped with the same Sakae engine as the Zero Model 21, and was active in various locations, including guiding fighter squadrons during the Philippine Air War, which began shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor.
Later, in the Battle of New Guinea, it even performed air combat roles, reportedly attacking and shooting down a formation of B-17 heavy bombers with Type 3 bombs.
This 1/48 scale plastic model is the first to depict the aircraft in detail, including the Type 3 bombs it carried.
This is a plastic model that requires assembly and painting.
